If you want power distribution for your race car or street rod, most options fall into two categories. Mechanical relays and fuses are simple to understand and come at a reasonable price tag, but they usually require attaching the terminals and wiring directly to the hardware, or maybe come with screw terminals or some other very basic connections.
Solid state PDMs are very capable and flexible, and come with robust motorsports connectors that will stand up to demanding racing environments. You can program them with all sorts of logic. But they often cost over a thousand dollars, and not everyone needs, or wants, to configure their relay module with a laptop.
These new motorsport relay modules from Cramer Power Electronics LLC fill a middle ground. Like a PDM, these use robust connectors, but we've put these motorsports connectors on a simple, straightforward, and affordable relay and fuse block. Plus we've put status LEDs on it for easy troubleshooting. Simple, straightforward, rugged, and affordable.
Our first two models are a four circuit general purpose relay module, and a relay module specifically for EFI installation. What's the difference? The four circuit relay module is a straightforward one: The large terminal connects to 12 volt power, the relays switch power to the four central terminals, and the 12V and ground signals go to the eight pin connector. One pair of inputs, one output, and one fuse per circuit. The EFI relay module is set up specifically for common EFI installations. It is set up to run six fused outputs:
- ECU, triggered at key on.
- Accessories, triggered at key on. Typically used for items such as transmission control or wideband O2 sensor controllers.
- Injectors, triggered from the ECU fuel pump control output.
- Fuel pump, triggered from the ECU fuel pump output.
- Ignition system, also triggered from the ECU fuel pump output but on a separate relay.
- Auxiliary output, triggered from a separate ECU output. Typically used for cooling fans or similar functions.
